I am an independent school HS math teacher with 15+ years in the classroom and extensive knowledge of high school mathematics curriculum from Algebra I through AP Calculus AB. I received my B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University with a minor in psychology. I also earned my M.A. in Secondary Mathematics Education (Grades 7 - 12) from Teachers College of Columbia University. I graduated Stuyvesant High School with an A average, received an Advanced Regents Diploma (scored 95+ on every regents exam), and earned 5s on all of my AP exams (Biology, Chemistry, European History, US History, BC Calculus). I also scored well on the SAT (790 - Math, 800 - Writing, 750 - Reading).
My students have enjoyed success in my classroom, because I work hard to teach and explain math concepts in a way that is simple (and sometimes non-conventional) to understand. I love using analogies and illustrations to help a tricky concept stick; I teach limits and function dominance in Calculus through Pokemon battles and polynomial function analysis in Precalculus through narrowing a pool of suspects to identify the "criminal."
I especially like working with students individually, as it offers me a chance to truly tailor my instruction to meet the needs of each student. With an abundance of patience and grit, I will not give up until you or your child understands the content and is able to demonstrate mastery.
