I have been in the education business for over 20 years, and feel that a student needs comfort and security in order to succeed in the academic and professional world. I use the one on one tutoring method to achieve this goal and take the student under my wing as I lead them down the road to academic, and professional success. I have traveled to many places and countries (including England, France, and Italy) to educate myself about various cultures through out the world and never cease the desire to learn. I feel that people are "never too old to learn!" This is why I invented the whole educate outside the box strategy in which she has proven success! I also feel that the arts plays a major role in a student's education. As an advocate of the arts myself, I have broadened my horizons by leaps and bounds and I use this to guide students who do not get exposure to the arts neither in school nor at home.

My motto is "Educate Outside The Box!" Yes, educating students outside the box is where the sense of security and of comfort come into play. Our company uses various educational mediums including field trips to help students succeed not only in the classroom, but in the professional world also.

American History

American History

It is important for students to know what foundations our country was laid on and how people embrace these foundations.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

As a part of my professional training for my masters degree at St. John's University, we had to take several special education courses that dealt with learning to handle students with special needs including autism. During training we used the "Rain Man" method in which we had to look out for the emotional, mental and behavioral signs of an autistic person. We also learned that if a child did not start talking by the age of two the mental signs of autism were beginning to present itself. We also learned that if the child's behavioral and emotional signs were not stabilized by the age of five, teachers are allowed to send a child to the school support team for autism evaluation. Autism. like ADHD affects a student's learning progress severely and they need extra attention in order to succeed in school.
Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I am a certified catechist with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of NY and have taught CCD for 4.5 years. I have taught religious studies at St. Teresa’s School, Staten Island, New York. My duties included preparing and teaching weekly lessons based on what chapter they were on and the doctrines that we were going to be learning about each week. I have also assigned pre-made take home tests and unit exams related to weekly doctrine lessons. While I was here, I also prepared second grade students for the sacraments of confession (penance) in which I instructed students in the guidelines of receiving this sacrament and taught special prayers that are associated with confession, and the holy eucharist (communion) which involves the learning of more special prayers and practices that make up the liturgy of the eucharist in the Catholic church. I have also lead local religious retreats for the communion and confirmation students in the weeks prior to their special day. I also attended special training seminars that were held annually at another local church in which we learned how to emphasize our lessons and make them adaptable to the practices of the outside world. This can also apply to Bible studies because I was also taught how to interpret the Bible.

Handwriting

I am an experienced private tutor that has worked with elementary school students for over 15 years. Good Handwriting is essential and very important. Students need to know how to write a signature, write up drafts when computers are not readily available, put together good sentence structures, learn to write neatly and legibly. These are just a few of the handwriting basics that need to be learned and I can teach those basics with dignity and ease for the students.

Phonics

Phonics

The study of phonics is important since it can help a student read and speak more efficiently and clearly. With good phonetic skills a student will be able to enunciate words more clearly and with ease. I feel that phonics is crucial in the early grades (Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd) because when good phonics skills are implemented in these grades, it provides a solid background in pronunciation of more difficult words that a student will face as their vocabularies build.
Reading

Reading

Reading is an essential key in life, and learning how to properly read will help that key open life's doors.
Regents

Regents

As a tutor, I have worked in test prep for five of my ten plus years in the tutoring field. I have helped students pass many standardized tests including, but not limited to regents exams. Over the years I have showed students that the best way to pass a standardized test like the regents is through proper preparation and challenging study tactics. When preparing a student for a standardized test like the regents I utilize test preparation books that will gear and prepare them for the actual exam. 100% of the students that I have worked with have passed the standardized tests including the regents.

Goes the extra mile!

Ms. Heather is a very patient teacher, she answers all the questions and many times stays extra to make sure that kids are able to do their homework on their own. The kids love her because she makes them feel comfortable. Highly recommend her to prospective students and of course parents!!

Wonderful Tutor

Heather has been a god send for us. My daughter is a special education student and due to Heather's patience and understanding my daughter is doing really well. She uses different techniques to help her to understand. We intend to continue with her tutoring during the summer months so that my daughter doesn't fall behind during the summer vacation. I would recommend her services to anyone hoping to advance their childrens education.

Best Choice of a Turtor

I've had 3 tutoring sessions with Heather so far. Not only is she very knowledgeable and super helpful in finding the right materials for me to excel, but she travels from Staten Island to Manhattan to see me. Heather doesn’t rush through the material she is teaching. She is very patient and I am having a great experience with her.
