Hello! My name is Sabrina and I'm an undergraduate student at Stony Brook University as well as a graduate from Stuyvesant High School in New York. My SHSAT score was a 590 and my SAT score was a 1510 (800 Math, 710 ELA). Additionally, I scored above 90s on all my NY regents exams.
I've been officially tutoring for almost 2 years now, focusing on SHSAT prep and SAT prep. Most of my students/tutees range from 12-16 years old. Although I have the most official experience with test prep, I've had unofficial experience (tutoring friends and family) and am capable of tutoring other subjects such as K-8 math, reading, writing, and science. Please reach out if you have any questions regarding my capabilities!
My tutoring/teaching methods vary from student to student since everyone learns at different speeds and retains information different. I typically start off my sessions with a benchmark to gauge where my student is at. By going over the benchmark and asking the student their reasoning or thought process, I can determine what concepts they're struggling to grasp. Throughout the rest of the sessions, I switch back and forth between guided lessons and independent practice questions. Of course, I also take into consideration the students' preferences and will structure my sessions on their feedback.
