Hello! My name is Nicolette, and I am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education while working toward becoming a certified mathematics teacher for grades 7–12. I earned my Bachelor of Business Administration from Baruch College and have developed a passion for helping students build confidence and success in mathematics. I am currently serving as a long-term substitute teacher for 8th grade mathematics, where I teach both Pre-Algebra and Algebra I. Working with middle school students every day has given me valuable experience helping learners with different skill levels, learning styles, and academic goals.

My approach to tutoring is centered on making math relatable and meaningful. I believe students learn best when they can connect math to situations they encounter in their personal lives. For example, when teaching linear equations, I often use scenarios such as "shoveling snow for x- amount of hours" so students can understand what the variables mean in context. I like to begin lessons using language that students naturally understand and then gradually guide them towards more advanced mathematical language. This helps students develop a conceptual understanding first rather than simply memorizing procedures. Once students understand the "why" behind a concept, they are much more successful when tackling more advanced problems.

I strive to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Whether a student needs help with homework, preparing for an exam, strengthening foundational skills, or building confidence in Algebra or Pre-Algebra, I am committed to meeting them where they are and helping them grow. One of the most rewarding parts of teaching is helping students realize that math is not something to fear but it is something they are capable of understanding and mastering.
