I received special honors in Romance Languages and Literature, the Theodore Lee Neff Prize for excellence in studying the French language and literature, and a Foreign Language Proficiency Certificate in French (mark: High Pass with Honors) at the University of Chicago.
I obtained an MA, an MPhil, and a PhD in French from Yale University. I also studied at the Université Paris X (Nanterre), and I was a pensionnaire étrangère at Ecole normale supérieure in Paris.
Besides teaching at Yale while completing my doctorate, I have taught French at all levels at Middlebury College and Oberlin College as a visiting assistant professor and beginning and intermediate French classes as a part-time lecturer at St. Michael’s College.
In addition to teaching hundreds of college students, I have more than 25 years of tutoring experience. I have tutored students of all levels and ages privately as well as for the L’Alliance Française of the Lake Champlain Region.
I am flexible, and I always adapt to the needs and learning styles of each student. I know how to explain difficult concepts in simple terms, and I help students overcome their fear of speaking in French. I use grammar exercises, verb drills, songs, movie clips, idioms, and tongue twisters that help improve my students’ oral comprehension, accent, and pronunciation. My lessons are well organized and structured. I often provide worksheets and video materials to help students learn and enjoy their lessons.
Some of my students need help explaining grammatical concepts, which I explain in English when their level of French is too low. I usually tutor using the immersion method in French because this method allows students to make quick progress and improve not only their grammar and vocabulary but also their listening comprehension and oral expression skills.
I am thorough, patient, and dedicated to tutoring French and helping my students thrive in a new language. Generally speaking, I am confident I can make learning French enjoyable.
A bientôt, j’espère!
