I have a Master's Degree in Education and I am NYS certified for both Special Education 7-12 Generalist and General Childhood Education 1-6. I have worked in a NYC Public High School in Brooklyn for 3 years teaching both general education ELA, AP English Language, AP English Literature, ICT and self-contained for grades 9, 11 and 12. I have tutored 2-3 hours a week to help students prepare for and pass the NYS ELA Regent Exam. I also work after hours teaching credit recovery to students who have failed a course and are looking to get back on track to graduate. My classroom sizes range anywhere from 15 students to 32 students. I work with with students with: learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, intellectual disabilities, speech or language impairments and ENL students.
I am also certified for "gifted and talented" teaching.
As a special education teacher, my philosophy is to learn what supports and practices best work for each individual student. I believe in seeing students' ability NOT their disability. I provide students with many visuals, modeling, organizers, checklists, repetition, read alouds and scaffolding using the "I do, We do, You do" approach to help students achieve confidence and positive results.
