I have a Bachelor's degree in History with a minor in Museum Studies and Public History, a Master's degree in History, a Master's degree in Adolescent Education (Grades 7–12 Social Studies), and an Advanced Certificate in Special Education. In addition to my education background, I have over 13 years of experience in emergency services. I am an active Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B), hold Firefighter II certification, numerous technician level certifications, and Pro Board Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I and II certifications. This combination of academic knowledge and real world experience allows me to confidently tutor students in both social studies and emergency services.
I have been teaching since 2017 in both general education and special education settings. For the past four years, I have taught in a 6:1:1 special education classroom, primarily teaching Global History and United States History at the high school level. During the summer, I teach general education social studies to stay well rounded and current with curriculum expectations. I have also served as a teaching assistant for a college history course, giving me experience supporting students at the post secondary level.
My teaching approach focuses on meeting students where they are and adapting instruction to fit their individual needs. I believe the best differentiation happens in the moment, so if one strategy is not working, I adjust until I find an approach that helps the student succeed. I also believe learning should be engaging and enjoyable. Whether I am teaching history or emergency services, I use real world examples, discussion, and interactive learning to make complex topics easier to understand while building confidence and encouraging academic success.
