As a parent, you want to know that the person supporting your child is experienced, qualified, and able to connect with students in a meaningful way. I bring over 25 years of experience as a certified educator, working with middle and high school students in English Language Arts, reading comprehension, writing, history, and study skills. I hold a master’s degree in special education and am state-certified in Arizona in English language arts and social studies, with ongoing advanced doctoral-level coursework focused on learning, cognition, and instruction. My background allows me to support students with a wide range of academic needs, including those who require extra structure, confidence-building, or individualized learning strategies.

Throughout my career, I have taught in classroom settings and provided one-on-one tutoring for students typically ranging from ages 11 to 18. I specialize in strengthening foundational literacy skills, improving writing and organization, supporting homework and long-term projects, and preparing students for assessments. I am especially effective at breaking down complex material into manageable steps and teaching students how to learn, not just what to memorize. Each tutoring session is personalized to your child’s strengths, learning style, and academic goals.

What sets me apart is my ability to balance high expectations with patience and encouragement. I create a supportive environment where students feel understood, capable, and motivated to grow. My sessions are structured, engaging, and focused on real progress—helping students build both academic skills and confidence. Whether your child needs ongoing support or short-term skill development, I meet them where they are and help them move forward with clarity and confidence.

African American Studies

I bring over 25 years of experience teaching U.S. history and social studies with a sustained focus on African American history, race, identity, and power in educational contexts. My graduate training and doctoral research center on Critical Race Theory and Black Feminist Thought, with a specific emphasis on colorism and its impact on academic identity and social-emotional development among Black students. I have designed culturally sustaining curricula and facilitated inquiry-based discussions that foreground African American intellectual traditions, historical agency, and lived experience. This combined classroom, curricular, and scholarly expertise equips me to teach African American Studies with both academic rigor and pedagogical depth.
