I am a NYS certified teacher in Biology, Chemistry and Earth Science. I teach online courses for a state college. I have over 20 years of teaching experience and have tutored many students who successfully passed the NYS Regents exam. Before becoming a teacher, I was a research assistant in Columbia University's Oceanography Department. My job was to extract microfossils from deep-sea sediment cores. These fossils were then analyzed so that the scientist I worked could reconstruct the last ice age. I then worked for l companies in Colorado here I flew once a month to Michigan, where the company was drilling and worked on drilling rigs. My experience in research and in the field make science "come alive" for my students.

Joanne has done a wonderful job helping my son with his Earth Science class.
His grades have steadily improved, and continues to grow. Her ability to teach is second to none..
How to take labs for regents exams. She is patient and funny and engaging. Madison looks forward to her coming each week.
Joanne was a diligent, adaptive, and intelligent tutor. She was always willing to reschedule appointments when needed or meet multiple times per week during heavier workloads. She read all the material needed and was up-to-date on all information on the subjects I needed help with, and had enough background information to point out difficult, but relevant, aspects of the material my lecturers and laboratory instructors hadn't talked about in class. Her help on written projects, such as essays, lab reports, and other long writing assignments was especially noteworthy, and she was wonderfully adept at prompting and refining ideas while allowing me to formulate them myself. Study sessions were always productive: she came prepared to discuss any ideas I needed help with.
Joanne was enthusiastic, encouraging, and patient. It was incredibly helpful and an absolute pleasure to work with her! I highly recommend her to anyone struggling with lower or middle-level Biology courses!
Joanne came out to our home on a really snowy night and she stayed the whole hour to find out where my daughter stood in Chemistry. My daughter expressed that she did a very good job explaining the material in a way that made sense to her. She is looking forward to getting more assistance from her and I hope we see an improvement in her test scores- keep ya posted!!!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
