Hello, my name is Jim. I am currently an immunologist + bioinformatician at DAAN Biotherapeutics. I double-majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Theatre at Loyola University Chicago. I was an Immunology PhD student at Dartmouth College, who left with a MSc instead of completing the PhD. I worked as a Research Assistant II at Boston Children's Hospital, Research Assistant I at Harvard Public Health, and a Research Technologist at Northwestern University while simultaneously working as a part-time Chemistry TA at LUC.

I feel greatly rewarded when I see my students' improvements, not only in their grades, but also in their thought processes and strategies in problem solving because that tells me I contributed to you becoming a better self. I have been missing having student interactions and being a mentor outside of classes, so I decided to become an independent tutor on Wyzant's platform.

During my undergraduate, I held extracurricular positions that required detailed communication, including my four part-time job positions at Loyola's Undergraduate Admissions Office and my role as the Chief Justice at Student Government of Loyola Chicago. Additionally, my TA experience required me to not only oversee the classes, but also to prepare+give lectures and hold office hours where I answered my students' individual questions. With that, I would like to say I am confident in individual and group communications and in explaining materials comprehensively with passion.

During my time at Dartmouth, I did research in an antibody engineering lab, then switched to a tumor immunotherapy lab. I greatly expanded my knowledge in protein biochemistry, immunology, and cell signaling, and gained computational skills for various analyses.

I am originally from South Korea, but I came to the States when I was 16. As someone who has learned English and Spanish on my own, I can be an easy guide in explaining how Korean language structure works and how words are pronounced.

Biochemistry

Biochemistry

I earned my M.Sc in Immunology from Dartmouth College. With multiple required courses covering biochemistry and cell biology on top of immunology, I was always made sure to stay on top of all the biochemistry concepts. Additionally, during my time at Dartmouth, I did research in antibody engineering and tumor immunotherapy, which required a great deal of knowledge in protein biochemistry, cell biology, cell signaling, and immunology. I double-majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, which allowed me to see the big pictures drawn by biology and to interpret the details with chemistry. My Biochemistry curriculum includes Biochemistry I+II, Physical Biochemistry, Inorganic Biochemistry, Enzymatic Kinetics, and Quantitative Analytical Chemistry (for Biochemistry major). During my undergraduate period, I did research in a biochemistry lab with a focus on enzymatic kinetics. I have an experience of teaching as a Teaching Assistant for several chemistry classes and the position required me to prepare + give lectures and hold office hours, which often became tutoring and mentoring sessions.

Korean

Korean

I lived in South Korea for 15.5 years before coming to the States in 2011. Although I have not taught Korean professionally, I have taught my friends how the word structures and sentence structures work in Korean. Also, having been teaching myself Spanish and Polish and having learned English, I have grasped a sense of what it is like to learn and teach a foreign language.

Takes the time to explain the problems.

Jim, was able to help my daughter understand her chemistry problems. He is patient in explaining the process. This is really appreciated especially since she doesn’t have any in lab sessions and every lab class is online and she basically has to figure things out on her own. Having some direction on how to approach the problem is valued. Thank you Jim. Definitely will have another tutoring session with Jim again.

I never had a tutor before and Jim was my first one. I can say my expectations definitely been exceeded and i find every session helpful. Currently i am being tutored in chemistry and Jim really helps with my understanding. 10/10 tutor, patient, knowledgeable, and communicative. Couldn’t ask for anything better.
