My name is Evan, and I graduated magna cum laude from Rhodes College with a B.S. in Neuroscience and Chemistry. I am currently applying to medical school. After self-studying for the MCAT, I scored a 517 (94th %ile) on my first attempt. While I am comfortable assisting with all sections, I specialize in Psych/Soc, as this was my strongest on the test (132, 100th %ile). At Rhodes, I earned A’s in all chemistry and neuroscience courses. I also love working with students taking these classes!
I have 2 years of tutoring experience as Rhodes' first supplemental instructor for introductory neuroscience and as a teaching assistant for organic chemistry. As a supplemental instructor, I led interactive sessions twice a week for a class of ~20 students aimed at understanding, applying, and reviewing lecture content for exams. As a teaching assistant, I held office hours twice a week and helped manage a laboratory of ~20 students. I helped students understand both reactions and experimental logic. I've always loved the moment that a student realizes they understand a concept, and helping students build confidence with tough material is a huge motivation for me!
My tutoring philosophy centers around truly understanding concepts and tailoring strategies to individual students. With the MCAT, I emphasize detailed review of practice questions to understand the thought process behind each answer choice, whether right or wrong. This helps students build on their base of both content and testing strategy. I also encourage the use of third-party resources (UWorld, Anki, Blueprint, etc.) and offer guidance on how best to utilize them based on each student’s learning style and goals. Every student is unique, and exact strategies will vary from person to person. The MCAT can be intimidating, and preparation can feel overwhelming, and I’d love to help make it more manageable. Please feel free to reach out anytime about your goals and how I can help you reach them!
