Patient, knowledgeable and experienced in teaching English language learners, I have taught ESL for more than 20 years to adults and college level students. I have been teaching the English Pronunciation Workshop at Suffolk County Community College in New York for 14 years, as well as tutoring students online. I help my students speak their thoughts clearly and fluently!

I earned an MA-TESOL (Master of Arts -Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), RSA/CELTA (Royal Society of the Arts/Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) and the New York State ESL Teacher K-12 Certification.

There are many different ways to help different types of students to reduce their accent.
I listen carefully to you speak and find the best way to help you say exactly what you want to say, clearly and confidently in English. I explain, describe and show you how to clearly make the different English sounds. Then we discuss and practice using syllable/word stress and intonation, improving your rhythm and fluency while we target your main concerns with your English pronunciation.
I create lessons around your interests and make enjoyable, as well as challenging, activities that are specifically geared to your improving the quality of your life.

When you would like to improve your English pronunciation and reduce your accent, please contact me to learn more, ask questions, and schedule lessons. I would like to work with you!
Best regards,
Leslie

I have spent most of my life teaching English pronunciation, and I have traveled to such diverse places as Europe, Peru, the Hardangerfjord in Norway, and Guanlan, China. I have a Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (MATESOL) from Stony Brook University in New York, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Kansas City Art Institute. I have teaching certifications for both ESL and Art, and in 1999 I earned the RSA/CELTA Certificate at the Embassy CES in New York City.

Extremely knowledgable and helpful teacher!

Leslie was able to understand and replicate my New York Accent in order to teach me what I needed to do to correct it. She had a warm and friendly style and I would highly recommend her for any kind of language or pronunciation lesson!

Experienced & Patient

It was easy for Leslie to quickly identify my weaknesses and her patience, irrespective of the initial technical issues from my end was phenomenal. Leslie helped me to relax and I easily got connected with her. We already agreed more lessons and I look forward to achieving my goal through her tutoring.

English is my second language. Leslie has helped me improve my pronunciation. She uses a variety of teaching technique such as teaching on how the muscles work around the tongue and face area; understanding about vowels and syllables; and learning where to place the stress on the syllable etc. She specializes in linguistics and is very knowledgeable. She is also very encouraging and patient. I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants to improve their English pronunciation and/or reduce their foreign accent.

Very professional. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

The lessons with Leslie are fun and enlightening at the same time. Leslie is a very professional Tutor and amazing person. I like the simple but very viable approaches she use to make you feel comfortable and get you to sound like a native. My pronunciation and accent are improving every time I have a lesson with her. I feel more confident and I feel like I sound already much better after only 8 lessons! Definitely recommend!

Good tutor, had her own approach.

We have practiced to pronounce different sounds. And these lessons help me to reduce the accent. I want to sound more fluent like a native speaker. Leslie is a great teacher.
