Bio

I've been tutoring dyslexic students in the Kingston/Woodstock area for over 7 years. I use the Barton System for Reading and Spelling, an Orton-Gillingham-based program, with great success.

In addition, my master's degree in linguistics and many years of teaching English as a Second Language and English Composition qualify me to tutor in all aspects of ESL and English language arts.

I hold California credentials to teach English and ESL in Community College/Adult Education as well as...

I also served on timed essay reading panels several times so I have first-hand experience scoring test essays.

I have a Masters degree in Linguistics with a focus on ESL/ESOL as well as 20 years' experience teaching this subject, 3 of them abroad (Nepal, Argentina. I also have 11 years of classroom experience as a teacher of ESL, from basic to advanced levels, at the college level(focus on written expression and academic writing) as well as adult school (focus on listening and speaking skills). In addition I have been a private tutor of ESL with Ulster Literacy Association for the past 5 years.

I hold secondary, adult, and community college credentials (California) and a Master's Degree in Applied Linguistics. I have many years of college and university experience teaching writing skills, including the timed writing that is required for tests. I have tutored several students specifically in GED preparation in language arts.

I have a masters degree in linguistics which includes course work in phonics. I have as well 30 years experience teaching ESL and 10 tutoring dyslexic students with an Orton-Gillingham-based system (phonics-based).

I taught freshman English with an appropriate emphasis on proofreading in colleges and universities for many years. I have a master's degree in Linguistics with an emphasis on the skills, including proofreading, required to teach academic writing.

I am a certified Barton System for reading and spelling tutor, on their national registry. I have over ten years' experience working with dyslexic students and have a master's degree in linguistics. I also work with students to develop their reading comprehension and other study skills, using a variety of techniques developed over my 20-year career as a credentialed language arts teacher in California.

I have a Master's degree in Linguistics with coursework in phonetics, which is very important in teaching spelling.

I taught a study skills course (for credit) to high school students several years in a row as part of my position as resource teacher with the Monterey County Office of Education (CA). The course covered time organization, critical thinking, memory training, taking notes, reading comprehension, test taking, communication skills, writing, and using resources. I am also trained and certified in the Learning for Success system of individualized learning practices, which focuses on assessing the student's learning profile and adapting the student's environment to meet his or her study needs.
