I am a New York Certified retired teacher. I received my initial teacher training in Jamaica W.I. I graduated with Honors from the University of the West Indies where I earned my Bachelor's Degree. My Master's Degree was earned at Brooklyn College where I graduated summa cum laude. I have taught English language and literature in both Jamaica and New York for a combined total of over twenty five years. I am especially interested in improving deficiencies in reading, writing and communication skills. I am also interested and experienced in preparing students for the ELA Regents Comprehensive Examination. I am also proficient in preparing students for the Common Core ELA Examination.

I believe that all students are capable of achieving their academic goals under effective tutelage and strong support structures. I see my students' success as a measurement of my success as a teacher/tutor. Consequently, I approach teaching with the belief in depth rather that width of any concept or skill I am helping my students to learn or grasp.

Giving adequate cancellation notice not only shows respect for each party's time, but also helps to develop a relationship based on trust and mutual respect.

I enjoy teaching English and I endeavor to make this experience enjoyable for my students as well. I make my lessons student centered with activities that are aligned with my lesson objectives. I love to see when reading a text helps the students to journey to places and experience thing through their reading. I also help students to revise and edit their work by helping them to practice their grammatical knowledge.
