Hi there, I'm Matthew! I'm a software engineer with several years of programming experience and a long history of tutoring, starting back in 8th grade when I joined the National Junior Honor Society. I know the computer science landscape can feel overwhelming, especially since tools like ChatGPT became widely used in 2023. Many students worry about the job market and feel pressure to rely heavily on AI. While these tools are powerful, I’ve seen that what often holds people back is an underdeveloped foundation: portfolios that don’t show real problem-solving, overreliance on AI-generated code, and not enough practice thinking through problems step by step. My goal is to help students build those fundamentals so that tools like GPT or Claude become a boost, not a crutch, and to help them experience that “eureka” moment that comes from truly understanding a solution.
I tailor every learning plan to the individual student. After we discuss your goals and assess your current skill level, we’ll work together on custom lessons and projects for each topic, leading up to a capstone project you can be proud of. I’ve worked with students in one-on-one settings and I’m committed to being responsive, clear, and encouraging. Questions, suggestions, and ideas for new resources are always welcome. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
