Hello! My name is Savannah, and I’m a writing specialist and coach. I’m currently a PhD Candidate with two master’s degrees, including one in English (UGA) and one in Medieval Studies (Cornell University). Over the past seven years, I have designed and taught college writing courses.

I know that writing can feel overwhelming – but it doesn’t have to. Strong writers have a toolkit of writing moves and thinking patterns, all of which are highly teachable. I help students to apply these strategies, demystifying the writing process so they can write with greater confidence and clarity. With practice, writing becomes less of a hurdle and more of a tool for persuading others and expressing one's ideas.

I work with high school and college students to develop practical strategies for effective essay writing, such as analyzing quotations, organizing ideas effectively, and improving sentence structure and grammar. With my academic background, I also support students applying to college and scholarships, helping them craft compelling personal statements and essays.

Additionally, I offer tutoring for AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature, and AP European History. I received high scores on these exams, and I offer strategies for each essay type, MCQs, and sophistication points. Further, I was the STAR student in high school (earning the highest SAT score in the top 10% of my class), and I’m happy to support students in their SAT preparation.

I have also volunteered with elementary and middle school students for many years, and I’m comfortable adapting my teaching style to their own level with patience and clarity.

No matter your current writing level, I look forward to supporting you in achieving your goals!

Essay Writing

Through my seven years of college-level writing instruction, I have taught my students how to write and think analytically; these skills include not only identifying devices but also examining complexities in texts and asking analytical questions. Further, I have guided my students with synthesizing sources, conducting research, and putting their ideas in conversation with others. My courses have also taught the essentials of mechanics and style, including syntax, sentence variety, sentence flow, and proper citation. I emphasize for my students that style and grammar are not mere flourishes; they are crucial for writers to deliver their ideas clearly and bolster their ethos with the intended audience.
