I have been an English teacher/tutor for the past 15 years, coming in to teaching with Bachelor's degrees in English Literature and English Education. While teaching, I earned Master's degrees in both Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership. I have taught everything from Reading and Phonics to AP Literature and Composition at the high school level, as well as Freshman Composition 1 and 2 at the Community College Level. I have tutored for SAT and ACT extensively as well as High School exam prep and those Executive Function skills that every student needs to be successful. I can help students not only get better grades, navigate the high school experience, and prepare for college, I can also help them navigate the college application process.
I love the fact that when I tutor a student, the student sees their growth in their school grades and their test scores; but that they also become successful in other areas of their academics or work life. Tutoring is not just about raising test scores or grades (that will happen), it is all about getting the student to be the most successful they can be. Learning essential skills: the proper way to write, how to work through an assignment or test; helps all students grow and get the grades necessary to move through their academics.
In over 15 years of teaching and tutoring, I have had students who were not motivated and behind in credits graduate high school. I've had students with traditionally low reading and writing abilities pass state tests to get High School Diplomas. I have successfully tutored students to get the Reading/Writing SAT/ACT scores necessary to get them into their choice 1 school. I have had AP students who pretested at a level 1 earn a level 3 or higher on the actual test. I have taught executive skills to students who could not keep organized and watched as they became successful not just in high school, but also in college. There is a simple process to follow, and if you trust the process, you will be successful in all you do!
