Shortly after graduating from Nazareth College, I pursued a TEFL certification through the International TEFL Academy. For this certification, I completed more than 20 hours of practicum as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at the Ibero-American Action League and as an English as a Second Language (ESL) tutor at Maplewood Library. At the Ibero-American Action League, otherwise known as IAAL, I taught a group of Spanish-speaking seniors English for daily life and based my lessons around such aspects as going to the grocery store. At Maplewood Library, I tutored adult students from various linguistic backgrounds, including a woman from Yemen who was studying to take her GED exam. I often tailored my lessons to what the Maplewood students were looking for help with.
I have always been a strong writer myself and have often proofread my peers' papers, as well as those of younger students, upon their request. Regarding literature, it was one of my strongest subjects in middle and high school and in college, I became very adept at analyzing both French literature and multiple scripts and plays.
I have studied French formally for nine years and chose to major in French for my undergrad. During my time abroad in undergrad, I studied French intensely at a language center at the University of Rennes 2 and lived with a host family. Additionally, I work full-time at a company at which I speak French to Canadian customers daily.
