I'm Gavin! I have over 10 years of tutoring experience in biology and chemistry. I graduated from Hartwick College in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in biology with summa cum laude honors and have my Master of Science in Education from the University of Rochester certified in New York State in Chemistry and Living Environment. I am currently a teacher in Rochester, New York.

I'm Gavin! I have over 10 years of tutoring experience in biology and chemistry. I graduated from Hartwick College in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in biology with summa cum laude honors and have my Master of Science in Education from the University of Rochester certified in New York State in Chemistry and Living Environment. I am currently a teacher in Rochester, New York.

My tutoring approach is based on each individual student's learning style and background. I hope to make learning a fun and enriching environment by not just providing answers to questions, but practice problems and activities that help students become engaged and immersed in their class.

Beyond increasing a student's grade in a class and building their knowledge of a subject, I have 3 additional goals for students that I tutor:

1. Empower students to discover how they learn best
2. Increase their confidence in their own abilities
3. Help them find enjoyment in learning

Biology

Biology is one of my favorite subjects to tutor. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA from Hartwick College with a bachelor's degree in biology with over 60 credits in biology. I am currently a PhD candidate in Neuroscience at the University of Rochester Medical Center having taken cellular neuroscience and cell biology.
Chemistry

Chemistry

Chemistry is not every student's favorite subject, but it is my favorite subject to tutor! I graduated with a 4.0 GPA in chemistry, have 2 years of experience as a teaching assistant in chemistry, and over 5 years of experience tutoring chemistry from high school regents chemistry to AP Chemistry and college chemistry. My goal is to help chemistry be a less scary and more approachable, and even enjoyable subject for my students!

My approach to tutoring for the GRE is first understanding the format of the exam. It is vital to know how many sections, the timing, and the types of questions you will be asked. Second, I have valuable resources and practice problems to help strengthen your confidence for this test. I received scores in the top 5th-20th percentile between the Verbal, Quantitative and Writing sections.

I have two years experience in tutoring nursing courses that covered chemistry, dimensional analysis, math for nursing students, and medical dosage calculations.
Psychology

I am currently a PhD candidate in Neuroscience at the University of Rochester. While my specialty has been behavioral neuroscience, biological psychology in the field of psychology, I also have background in developmental psychology, research methods, and experimental statistics. I have a minor in Psychology from Hartwick College, graduating with a 3.9 departmental GPA.

Wonderful tutor!

Gavin helped my daughter with her AP Chemistry. He has been in a very professional manner from the beginning: He replied messages very fast. He asked the problem areas and fully prepared. Confirmed and reminded our appointment. He came at the meeting place earlier, got things ready, waiting for us. He did wonderful job. Not only he explain the questions clearly, he also left his student with the questions that he had prepared along with an answer key. After, he sent message to parents with comments and inform us what his student need to do next. He took his job very serious and he is very skillful. I am impressed.
