I have been tutoring students for over 12 years both in the Rochester, NY area and online. I hold a B. A. in International Studies and minors in French and Asian Studies from Nazareth College of Rochester. I specialize in helping students with academic and research writing, students with attention and executive functioning challenges, and ESOL/international students. Cornerstones of my approach to tutoring include inclusive, empowering study strategies tailored to each learner, building critical thinking and research skills, and providing positive feedback and encouragement to boost self-esteem and confidence. I firmly believe in tutoring with a growth mindset, where learners practice self-compassion, value their strengths, and cultivate genuine excitement about their potential to improve.
I have experience working in high school, undergraduate, and informal afterschool and museum education environments. I have designed and taught curriculum for a wide range of ages in a variety of STEAM, ELA, and Social Studies/Political Science topics, including day camps, field trips, after school programs, and a virtual learning day program.
I have worked with many international students to complete high school diplomas, undergraduate, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees and doctoral dissertations. I have helped advocate for students getting IEP and 504 plans for anxiety, ADHD, executive dysfunction, sensory processing challenges, and autism spectrum-related challenges, as well as adults navigating these challenges. I believe that every learner deserves the tools and supports they need to discover the joy of learning, and I am always ready to go to bat for my students when their needs are not being met.
My goal is not just to help your learner complete their academic work, but to help them develop skills and strategies that enable them to become resilient, confident, and proud of their progress. I want every learner to experience the fulfillment that comes from tapping into one’s own power and strength with optimism and joy.

Anthropology

Anthropology

I have studied global cultures as a part of my larger study of International Relations. My studies of indigenous peoples are complemented by my study of modern societies around the world, and my exposure to many different cultures has allowed me to study the differences in customs, traditions, languages, and all the myriad dimensions that make up a culture. I have taken college courses in Cultural Anthropology and written many papers on different facets of culture around the world, including gender roles, cultural narratives (oral and written), cultural responses to oppression, colonialism, and other topics. I have a profound interest in culture and believe that we can gain a great deal of knowledge about ourselves by studying own culture the same way that we study others.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I have many years of experience in essay writing and resume/application design. In addition to crafting essays, cover letters and resumes for myself, friends and family, I have also assisted tutoring students with the college application process as well as their search for jobs after graduation. I have helped to create successful essays and applications for private, SUNY, and community college applications. I have also helped to guide applicants in degree program selection, communication with college admissions staff and international admissions/immigration. I have worked with SEVIS and have experience with J-1 and F-1 visa students and their program requirements. I also have experience in recruiting international students for SUNY Brockport through presentations, tours, and published materials that I created. I also have extensive experience in persuasive writing and editing, so the college essay is my strongest subject.

I have worked as a private tutor and nanny with many elementary and middle school-aged children for the last 10 years. I have experience with the Brighton, Fairport, Spencerport, Victor, Churchville-Chili, and Pittsford school disctricts. I have also worked with students from private religious schools and home-school children. My students typically need the most help with reading, writing and math, although I also assist my students with history, science, and health. Most of my elementary work has involved homework help, literacy, test preparation, and developing study skills. I have worked with gifted students, learning disabled students, students with Asperger's Syndrome, students with Autism, and students with other environmental factors that impeded their learning progress. My main goal as a tutor is to maximize the individual student's potential for self-sufficiency. I use creative strategies to help break down students' barriers to learning, and I try to challenge students to become independently motivated. I believe that positive reinforcement, rewards, praise, and empathy are the most powerful tools to promote a love of learning. I am known for developing a strong rapport with my students which continues to thrive as they grow and tackle more difficult academic challenges!

I have worked with desktops, laptops, servers, personal devices such as PDAs and now tablets, and web-based programs designed to link such devices. I understand the inner workings of a computer as well as a vast array of different software programs, but I am able to explain and share my knowledge with even the most technology-averse of students. Whether it is Microsoft Office, email, Cloud computing, web design, or any other facet of computer use, I can help you master the technology you need to succeed.

Reading

I have tutored students from the elementary to adult level in reading for a variety of purposes. My students range from young readers struggling to meet grade expectations to adult students who find the volume and sophistication of college reading material challenging. I tutor both native speakers and ESL/ESOL students, and I work with students with severe learning disabilities as well as students who are accelerated or gifted. I work with each student to help him or her develop strategies for reading comprehension, retention, and efficient, accurate note-taking. I also push my students to understand not only the content of what they read, but the author's background, bias, and the political, social, and cultural factors that shape any text. I help my students look for connections between the text and their own lives, and I encourage them to use ideas and vocabulary from their reading to enrich their own voices as writers.

My studies have covered Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Taoism, Shintoism, Chinese indigenous religion, Wicca, Paganism, ancient religions of Greece, Rome, Persia and Egypt, Native American religion and the ways in which these religions affect our society today. I have attended religious services for nearly all of these faiths and have taken several college classes about world religions (particularly Eastern) as well as writing papers both criticizing the disadvantages and advocating the positive aspects of religious faith. I can submit samples of my written work in religious studies if needed.

Very patient and kind.

Eron did an exceptional job with my daughter. They were able to regain her focus and get her back on task in a patient, consistent, and kind manner. They also helped my daughter to regain some of her confidence in her school work especially in her writing assignment. They arrived on time, were very professional, and courteous to me. They were also able to form a good rapport with my daughter and establish a great working relationship with her within a short time.
