My name is Kenneth, and I’m delighted that you are considering studying music with me. I am originally from Hong Kong and currently based in Rochester, New York. I am an energetic performer and dedicated teacher who enjoys working with students of all backgrounds and skill levels—especially beginners. My teaching is student-centered and supportive, with a focus on curiosity, confidence, and steady progress. I particularly enjoy teaching guitar, lute, ukulele, music theory, and world music.
I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts in Guitar Performance, with a minor in Music Theory, from the Eastman School of Music, as well as a Master of Music in Early Music (Historical Plucked Instruments), a Performer’s Certificate, and a Certificate in Community and Collegiate Music Teaching. This background allows me to work comfortably with students of all ages and musical interests.
I have taught at institutions including the Eastman Community Music School and the Penfield Guitar School. Over the past eight years, my students have earned recognition at regional, national, and international competitions such as the Long Island National High School Guitar Competition, Southern Guitar Festival & Competition, Connecticut Guitar Competition, Appalachian State University GuitarFest Competition, the University of Rochester River Campus Concerto Competition, and the NYSSMA Solo Festival. While I value these achievements, I place equal importance on personal growth, confidence, and enjoyment of music.
I strive to create a positive learning environment tailored to each student’s goals and learning style, and I am always happy to offer additional support outside of lessons when needed. I aim to be approachable, encouraging, and fully invested in my students’ long-term musical development.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson. I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your musical goals.
Warm regards,
Dr. Kenneth K.
