I bring over two decades of expertise in American Sign Language instruction and deaf education to my tutoring practice. With an Ed.D. in Deaf Studies & Deaf Education from Lamar University and extensive teaching experience from K-12 through university levels, I specialize in helping students master ASL while understanding the rich cultural context of the Deaf community.

My teaching background includes serving as a visiting assistant professor at Rochester Institute of Technology's National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT/NTID), where I taught ASL and deaf education courses to undergraduate and graduate students. Prior to that, I spent over a decade teaching in K-12 settings, working with deaf and hard-of-hearing students as well as their hearing peers. I hold professional teaching certifications in both deaf education and special education, and I am fluent in ASL as a hard-of-hearing individual myself.

I tailor my approach to each student's learning style and goals, whether you're a complete beginner learning your first signs, a student working toward ASL proficiency for academic or professional purposes, or a family member wanting to communicate more effectively with a deaf loved one. My students appreciate my patient, encouraging teaching style and my ability to make ASL accessible and engaging. I incorporate cultural insights throughout my instruction, helping students understand not just the language but also the Deaf community's values, history, and perspectives. I've also published research on communication access and inclusive practices, and I'm passionate about breaking down communication barriers.

Hard of Hearing

As a hard of hearing individual myself, I bring both personal experience and professional expertise to supporting students who are hard of hearing. I hold an Ed.D. in Deaf Studies & Deaf Education and have over two decades of experience working with hard of hearing students in K-12 and university settings. I understand the unique challenges of navigating between hearing and deaf worlds, including communication access, self-advocacy, assistive technology use, and identity development. My approach emphasizes building confidence, developing effective communication strategies, and ensuring students have the tools and support they need to succeed academically and socially in any environment.
Sign Language

Sign Language

I am a fluent ASL user with over 20 years of experience teaching American Sign Language at K-12 and university levels, including my recent position as a visiting assistant professor at RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf. As a hard-of-hearing individual, I bring both native fluency and deep cultural knowledge of the Deaf community to my instruction. I specialize in teaching ASL to learners of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced students, using engaging, communicative approaches that emphasize both language proficiency and cultural competency. Whether you're learning ASL for personal, academic, or professional reasons, I'll help you develop strong signing skills while understanding the rich history and values of Deaf culture.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I hold Indiana Professional Educator's License certifications in both special education and deaf education, along with an Ed.D. in Deaf Studies & Deaf Education. With over 20 years of experience working with students with diverse learning needs in K-12 and higher education settings, I specialize in developing individualized approaches that build on each student's strengths while addressing their specific challenges. My expertise includes working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing with additional disabilities (often called "deaf-plus"), creating accessible learning environments, implementing evidence-based interventions, and collaborating with families to ensure students receive appropriate support. I'm skilled at differentiating instruction, using assistive technology, and advocating for students' educational rights and accommodations.
