Academic Research Writing Tutor for Non-native English Speakers

Having always been very interested in writing and language, my educational background in English and Spanish (BA) and Applied Linguistics (Master's) reflects that focus. For the past 18 years, I have been working as an English language instructor at the university level. During this time, my work has required deep knowledge of a wide range of writing types, including such areas as reports, essays, short stories, news articles, proposals, research papers, briefs, memos, emails, application documents, speeches, and summaries, to name a few.

In addition to providing instruction in these many areas, my previous work has also involved providing detailed feedback for revision and improvement. While for much of my career I worked primarily with undergraduate and graduate students from a wide variety of fields and cultures, in the last two years, I have worked primarily with professionals who are trying to publish their research in high-impact journals. Through the U.S. Department of State, I worked in the Virtual English Language Educator Program where I provided writing instruction and feedback for university faculty from multiple countries in order to improve their chances of publishing their research. Navigating the subtleties of writing about complex topics in a second language can be extremely challenging and perplexing, so I thoroughly enjoy helping writers to identify the nuances and complexities that can dramatically impact meaning, clarity, and readability.
I know that academic writing can be a stressful and overwhelming experience, as there are so many aspects that must be considered simultaneously. It is my goal to simplify the process in order to highlight your knowledge and expertise.
