Bio

I have tutored and taught Latin and Ancient Greek to students from 6th grade to adulthood. I have completed all coursework and candidacy exams for a PhD. in Classics at Cornell University.

I have tutored and taught Latin and Ancient Greek to students from 6th grade to adulthood. I have completed all coursework and candidacy exams for a PhD. in Classics at Cornell University.
While I was working on my dissertation on Plato's "Meno", I noticed that the area's outstanding academic school was searching for a replacement Latin teacher. I had always enjoyed working with students; I applied, got the job, and never looked back. I enjoyed the next 30 years teaching grades 6-12, from introductory to AP courses, and coaching boys' basketball and girls' softball. I taught Spanish, Latin, and Greek Philosophical Thought. As Chair of World Languages for 15 years, I worked hard to ensure that my students and those of my teachers reached their goals through interesting and fun lessons that were accessible to each individual. I have Permanent New York State Certification and have been honored as a Teacher of the Year, as chosen by students.

I have also enjoyed teaching adults, working with aspiring Latin teachers and teaching Greek at a local Divinity school. I retired recently and began remotely tutoring two adults who are simply interested in reading Homer and other Greek texts. I have enjoyed it very much and would like to expand my tutoring, whether with students or adults.

As a tutor, I always seek to recognize an individual's strengths and learning style, and I strive to approach the material in a supportive way with that in mind. I think it is important for me to be a good listener in a comfortable environment that encourages questions as we engage the material together. I enjoy working on Greek or Latin with students of all ages and levels , and I look forward to working with you!

My son had his first lesson with Mr Ysidore and we found him to be very approachable, knowledgeable and patient as a tutor. We look forward to more interesting lessons going forward.
