Hi, my name is Alexandra. I am in my 8th year full time teaching Social Studies (U.S. History, Economics, and Law and Modern Politics) to 11th and 12th grade students. I have my Master's degree in Adolescent Education from Adelphi University and full certification in Adolescent Social Studies Education with a Middle School extension so I am qualified to teach grades 5-12. Typically over the summers, I also teach at the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire where I am the dorm head of middle school students and teach high school students in Criminal Justice and Global Justice. In both environments, I use a student centered model of discussion and activities to engage students with material and encourage them to take onus of their own learning. This buy in allows students to achieve great success and also take pride in their own efforts.

Throughout my time in the classroom, I have quickly learned how to work with a variety of students of various age groups from middle to high school and even entering college. This includes tutoring before and after school for state exams and large tests, but also working on college application essays and supplements, not to mention weekly individual sessions with students who are struggling. Individual attention is the best because session can easily be tailored to the student's needs.

I have taught Criminal Justice and Law and Modern Politics for 3 full years in a high school setting and 4 summers at a boarding enrichment program. I created the syllabus for both classes to include specifics in criminal law such as the process of being arrested, put on trial, and sentenced, issues with the public defender system in the United States, debate about capital punishment, types of crimes against persons and property, the difference between misdemeanors and felonies, and civil vs. criminal cases, just to name a few. Additionally, both courses delved into present day issues and covered much of the political climate surrounding the justice system today.

I have taught U.S. History, culminating in the Regents exam for three years. Additionally, I have also graded the Regents essays for both exams. I spend additional working hours with students before and after school reviewing for these exams.

Best Tutor for History

My daughter KJ was struggling with her US History Regents practice exam. Despite the exam being temporary suspended her school made it mandatory for scholars to graduate middle school. We are extremely thankful for finding Alexandra & loved her flexibility. During her sessions she was energetic, patient, simplified information, made it fun and provided KJ with additional tips.
