I am a highly motivated art teacher who brings insight and excitement to one-on-one teaching. Whether it is to develop drawings, paintings and designs for high-school portfolio auditions, or simply tutoring children or adults to dig in to the creative process, I give each student the benefit of my entire professional career to guarantee them a worthwhile experience.
I engage with many talented students ranging in ages from 5th grade to college-level. I am happy to work with beginners as well as students with a little experience all the way to those who have been making drawings or paintings for years.
My students work on all of the elements and principles of art and design, using charcoal, acrylic paint, pencil, collage, watercolor, clay and assemblage.

I bring 20 of teaching experience with me. Currently I am an instructor at Borough of Manhattan Community College. For years I taught a summer scholarship program at Snug Harbor Cultural Center's Art Lab. I have taught at the Arts Students League, Parsons School of Design and St. Brigid's Catholic School.

I exhibit my paintings regularly in New York City, most recently at Buddy Warren Gallery and Andre Zarre Gallery. Outside of New York City I've most recently exhibited at Joyce Goldstein Gallery in Chatham, NY and The Drawing Rooms in Jersey City, NJ. I also regularly rent my paintings to the movie industry as set design in such shows as Billions, Trainwreck and Madame Secretary.

Students are welcome to my studio in Queens for a quiet and inspiring environment to hone your art skills in order to create a beautiful portfolio.

Extremely knowledgeable and decades of college level art instruction.

I chose Cathy because of her extensive background. Other teachers claim to have done many different types of painting. But Cathy has both done them for decades and taught courses at the college level in each area. She can shift from portraits to human form to landscapes and speak with authority and deep background. In addition, she meets me where I am almost intuitively with no judgement or suggestion that I should be otherwise. She shows me options of ways to practice and I can choose what suits me best. Lastly, Cathy also walks the walk. She paints and shows her work at various galleries around New York. If you are more than a beginner and want someone who can truly teach you how to advance your skills, Cathy is a great choice. Did I mention she is pleasant and patient? Well, she is that too!

Engaging Teacher

Cathy tutored my son in preparing his art portfolio for high school applications. She was an engaging teacher that helped my son develop his strengths and learn new skills. She was extremely organized and knew/understood the high school application portfolio process well -- by the end of our lessons, my son had a wonderful portfolio.

She is knowlegable and patient.

She helped me with my pencil art. We worked on reproducing davinci's Virgin of the Rocks, london version. It was a lot of fun working with her on this pencil art project.
