I’m Henry! I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in History and a final GPA of 3.8. I have eight years of experience working in education and with children. I ran the successful summer historical education program at the Van Cortlandt House Museum for 3 years. Since graduating from the City College of New York, I have tutored within NYC’s large and vibrant homeschool community while creating and teaching several reading and writing-focused historical courses working with high school-aged children. Since fall 2023, I have created and taught college-level courses for Hunter College’s Program for Religion. I am also an experienced violinist with international touring experience and a deep love of teaching music.
As an educator, I always pursue two goals: to help students troubleshoot specific obstacles while helping them to foster a deeper interest in the subject. Once I’ve helped a student to find their area of interest within a subject, their motivation increases and they pay closer attention to their studies. For example, a student who is struggling with reading must be presented with and drilled on the skills they will need, but they will advance more quickly if they have a book they can’t wait to finish. I then assist them with their studies as needed. It is easier to do this individually than in a classroom, which is why I love tutoring.
I generally tutor middle and high schoolers, in person or remotely, focusing particularly on test prep and assistance with social studies coursework. I also coach writing and assist with college application essays while helping students develop successful time management skills. Finally, I offer private violin and music theory lessons. I work closely with my students’ parents to understand their immediate needs, goals, and learning styles. My rate is $80 per hour. I am available during the work week and on some weekends and check my messages promptly. Feel free to contact me and we can schedule a lesson. I look forward to hearing from you!
