Hi! My name is Richelle and I'm a private tutor utilizing 9 years of client-facing experiences into a people-centered approach in Human Resources and Organizational Development. For the first 6 years of my teaching experience, I was leading a small classroom of about 9 kids per session for abacus lessons. This required students to use a japanese soroban to calculate up to 5-digit numbers mentally using basic arithmetic.
My approach to learning comes from a philosophy where students should come to the class with their interests and curiosities. In high school, my Mandarin teacher always quoted Confucius: "Choose a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life." Of course taking this quote at surface level isn't rooted in reality but in your mindset. When you're passionate about something, the labor you put in doesn't feel meaningless. As a college graduate during the pandemic and a M.S. graduate in the age of rapidly advancing AI, war, and a job market crisis, I want the effort I put into my students to be meaningful; I want what I teach to apply to real life situations and to equip them with critical thinking skills, empathy, and attention to detail that goes beyond homework help.
This approach to my work has also lead me to take an interest in HR and Organizational Development where I am currently job hunting for corporate roles. As I am teaching my students, I want to learn about their aspirations and help guide them to plan out the steps they take to reach their goals from the classroom to the workforce.
