Bio

I’m a Computer Science Major with Literature minor. So far, I have plans to become a teacher post grad. Although I am a first year college student, I have been tutoring classmates, friends and younger students (around 9-12) for about 3 years. I have never had an opportunity to officially become a tutor, as where I lived did not offer it, so all my experience is volunteer—while it was usually in flux whether or not I would receive any payment. I developed a passion for teaching, as I love to help people, and believe me—I circled through many, many jobs figuring out how I could best do that.

I tutor best in academic English, and Art/Art History, as those are both my strongest subjects as well as my hobbies. I took AP Literature in high school, and scored a 4 on the AP exam. Additionally, I placed out of Composition in University. With art, I have been painting and drawing for years, and have a solid foundation on many art skills. I did not take the AP Studio exam, but did take the class. I went to The Art Effect since I was 12, and have won multiple awards. I worked there as an employee during the summer of 2021. I am hoping to one day become a student-teacher part-time.

My younger brother has a learning curve, which makes it difficult for him to understand certain topics. His biggest challenge is asking for help, as he feels “he should know this”, which I believe is a trap many students find themselves to be in. My brother has caused me to adapt a style of teaching, where I work on enhancing and showing off the students strengths to build confidence, while figuring out where their weaknesses are and helping them overcome them. This can be done through example work, in depth explanation, or helpful insight. I find that encouraging students to be okay with making mistakes, allows them to be more receptive to learning.
