About Barbara
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a Bachelor’s degree in English from SUNY Geneseo, graduating summa cum laude, as well as a Master’s degree in Library Science with a specialty as a School Media Specialist.
I taught at Cohocton Central School for seven years and later worked as an adjunct mathematics professor for Empire State College for six years. Throughout my career, I have worked with students of many different ages, backgrounds, and ability levels, helping them build both understanding and confidence in their work.
My approach to tutoring is calm, patient, and focused on clarity. I believe that most students can succeed in mathematics once concepts are explained in a way that makes sense to them. I take the time to break ideas down, connect them to what the student already knows, and guide them step-by-step until they feel comfortable working independently.
I am especially comfortable working with students in elementary math, middle school math, and algebra, and I am happy to help with homework support, test preparation, or strengthening foundational skills.
I strive to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel at ease asking questions and making progress at their own pace.
