The summer has a reputation as a time when students' skills slide, but it doesn't have to be that way. I see it as an opportunity to make up lost ground, patch up any shaky foundational skills, and set students on the right course to begin their next school year.
While I have limited experience in the private tutoring realm, I have 20 years of experience working with students one-on-one and in small groups as a 5th and 6th grade classroom teacher, as well as in my current role as a K-4 math intervention teacher. In these roles I have developed teaching and learning strategies that are successful with all students, regardless of their present skill level or their attitude towards learning mathematics.
