I am an academic tutor with over 2 years (soon to be 3 years) of experience tutoring college students in algebra, precalculus, and calculus. I graduated from Long Island University Brooklyn Campus with a Bachelor of Science in biology in 2021. Then in 2022, I began working at the university as an academic math tutor and have been there since.
My tutoring method is primarily walking students through problems and breaking them down into smaller more manageable steps. I work through the problem, explaining my thinking in each step, and making sure my student understands the formula(s) used in the problem. Ultimately my goal is to help the student understand how to do these problems so they can become more confident in their own skills and ability to apply them in future problems. I also take the more complex and complicated concepts from calculus and convey them in a different language and use examples to make them more accessible and easier to understand for my students.
I tutor for my university and the students there, so the ages of my students have ranged from 18 to 23. I mostly have done one on one tutoring both over Zoom as well as in person at the university but I have also done a few group sessions usually with multiple students from the same class who wanted help preparing before an exam.
