Bio

Education is my life. I've been a classroom teacher and a tutor for over 10 years. There is nothing like educating young people and having an influence on their future endeavors.

My specialty is mathematics, but I also tutor ELA and test prep for the SAT, ACT, SHSAT, and GED. As a mathematics educator, I use many real world applications in mathematics to help enlightened the minds of young people. My specialty is mathematics, but I also tutor ELA and test prep for the SAT, ACT, SHSAT, and GED. As a mathematics educator, I use many real world applications in mathematics to help enlightened the minds of young people. My ultimate goal for my students is to gain an appreciation for mathematics. When I tutor ELA, I put an extra emphasis on being an active reader and using context clues to better comprehension. As a result, students will be more confident and their scores will improve.

I believe all students can learn and I take this approach with all my students. I will never give up on them and continue to be very patient with my students.

Elementary Math's purpose in education is to build a foundation. The goal is to become a better problem solver using tools given to you by your instructor. I have experience in finding what pieces in this mathematical foundation are missing and I fix any misconceptions that may come up while tutoring.

I played offensive line in high school and college. As an adult, I played Semi-Pro Football for a few years. I then started coaching youth football and high school football as an offensive line coach for the past 10 years.

I have been preparing students to take the GED for several years now. My methods to pass this test are to use everyday resources like newspapers and google for the reading, writing, and social studies portion of the test. For the math and science section of the test, I use various resources to help build a better foundation for my students.

I taught Geometry in the classroom for four years. I am very familiar with the New York State Regents exam. Most students struggle with writing proofs, remembering theorems and postulates, and memorizing circle formulas. My method to fix these mistakes is to show students how these topics relate to the world around them.

Logic is a topic usually taught with Geometry. It is used to help students write proofs and understand the properties of various shapes. In college, I used logic when writing programs for C++. I consider myself very strong in the subject.

I've been preparing students to be college ready by the time they finish high school. Precalculus is the course needed to assure students will be ready for college level mathematics. This is what I emphasize while preparing students to pass this course.

Even though it is not mandatory, all students need to take this exam. I've been preparing students for this exam for several years now and it is a great test to gauge a student's strengths and weaknesses. I also put a huge emphasis on test taking strategy for this exam because I like to create good test taking habits early which help students for future standardized test.

I am qualified to prepare students for all NYS Math Regents. I currently teach high school and every year I must prepare students to pass this exam. These exams include Integrated Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry. I am more than qualified to tutor these subjects.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I like to approach the SAT as if it were a puzzle. I comfort students by telling them most of the the material covered in the SAT are topics they have already learned in school. Most importantly, I teach students how to solve problems effectively and use proper time management techniques while taking the test.

I've been preparing students for the SHSAT exam for 15 plus years. I make sure to keep myself up to date with any changes in the exam. My track record speaks for itself in regard to getting students into the specialized high schools they wish to attend.

I have over 5 years experience teaching Trigonometry. My methods to teaching this subject is to use the foundations learned in Algebra and Geometry. This allows my students to solve problems confidently.

Very passionate educator - the best math tutor around!

Mr. Evan is absolutely a pleasant teacher. We are now with him for nearly two schools years and he made a big difference for my sons math. We followed him from Long Island and now in Queens. Would not go to any other math tutor. He is a real educator and enjoys teaching. He's a very pleasant person. I will continue with Mr. Evan for as long as my son needs tutoring and as long as Mr. Evan is willing. We really lucked out with him. I would not look further than Mr. Evan. He's just gold. My son absolutely enjoys his teaching. He is a lovely teacher and very polite. With the new math or the way math is being taught in school today many parents have become lost. The homework and concepts are confusing. Mr. Evan is really an educator he's a full time math teacher and not just some person tutoring. He is a true educator and believer. Any person looking for a math tutor Mr. Evan is 100% the person, no need to look further. He is effective and knows his math. I would gladly speak to any person on behalf of Mr. Evan. Evan is very thorough and breaks down the math into smaller parts when my son doesnt understand. I like that he challenges him and constantly asks him "why" which helps him break down his understanding of content
