Hello, I'm Noelle! I graduated from SUNY ESF with a Bachelor's of Science in Environmental Biology, and have been a lifelong lover of science. As a child, I read so much about it that I exhausted my local library's catalog of books for many subjects. Science was always my favorite subject in school, and though I've had many different teachers throughout my school career, I've found that the teachers that stuck out in my mind were the ones who cared about their students. I believe that when every student gets the help they need, then they will care more about the subject material, and hence, learn more.
My experience lies in tutoring science (Biology and Astronomy) and math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, and Geometry). During high school, I would see students one-on-one, or in small groups of no more than four. I would do so for roughly two hours a day during lunch and my study halls, and I was available for messaging for a few hours after school. I have three years' worth of volunteer tutoring experience that I picked up from my time doing so. As such, I have the most experience with high school students, but I am also comfortable working with middle schoolers and college students.
In my experience, I've found that the best approach is to allow the student to guide themself. I should explain the given material to the student in an enjoyable and engaging way, focusing on the areas that they understand the least, and being willing to stop and elaborate if they do not understand. When I am asked a question, I don't usually give the student the answer right away, but instead attempt to lead them to make the correct conclusion under their own power. However, I am always willing to adjust my methods on an individual basis if the student or their parents think something else would work better.
I always listen to student feedback, and am committed to providing the best experience possible. If you have any questions, please send me a message! I will respond within 24 hours.
