Hello All! - My name is Michael, and I am a tenured, New York State-certified Special Education teacher currently teaching 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies. While my certification is in grades 7-12, I have extensive experience working with elementary, middle, and high school students through classroom teaching, summer school, and private tutoring.
I work with students of all ability levels, from those struggling in a particular subject to those looking to improve grades, strengthen skills, prepare for exams, or maximize their academic potential. My areas of expertise include (but are not limited to) reading, writing, social studies, executive functioning, test preparation, essay writing, college application support, and academic coaching.
What sets me apart is my commitment to getting to know each student as an individual. I believe strong relationships are the foundation of successful learning. Before instruction begins, I take time to understand each student's strengths, challenges, interests, and goals. I create lessons tailored specifically to that student. Whether a student enjoys sports, fitness, or another passion, I incorporate those interests into learning to increase engagement and motivation.
Beyond academics, I help students develop organization, time management, planning, accountability, self-advocacy, and study strategies. I also work as a life coach, helping students build resilience, responsibility, independence, and habits necessary for long-term success.
I strongly believe mistakes are an integral part of learning and growth. Students should never feel embarrassed about making mistakes. Some of the greatest growth occurs when students take academic risks, work through challenges, and learn from setbacks. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and reaching their full potential. I look forward to learning about your goals and helping you achieve success both in and out of the classroom!
