Since the sixth grade, I have been working and interacting with children of all ages. I discovered my passion for working with children through volunteering at my local library (e.g. assisting with reading comprehension and homework), and my commitment to furthering children’s education only grew as I took on greater roles as a tutor, summer camp counselor, project management specialist (i.e. for an afterschool program), and mentor. As I transition into my college years, I hope to continue being a strong academic supporter for children by instructing at Wyzant. Through this experience, I hope to continue developing my communication and mentorship skills.
In addition to my preliminary volunteer experience with my local library, I have tutored children of all ages in developing their mathematical reasoning (i.e. from elementary mathematics to calculus 2), writing, grammar, reading comprehension, and pronunciation skills through various nonprofit tutoring organizations. Throughout my high school career, I have always sought to maintain outstanding averages in all of my courses, and during my senior year, I took part in a year-long, college-level humanities colloquium, receiving an A by the end of both my fall and spring semesters.
I apply a very free-form approach when tutoring, which means I let the tutee tell me how they learn most effectively. Most students turn to tutoring because they find that the standardized curriculum at school isn't as effective in allowing them to effectively interpret and apply the lessons to their homework or personal projects, so I hope to serve as a tutor that can help them learn best. Schoolwork may be incredibly daunting at times, so I intend on working with my students to discover how fascinating and fun learning can be.
