Hello, I am a software engineer by day and a math geek by night. I have a lot of interests and experiences, but one of my favorite things to do is to help students gain confidence in mathematics. I have numerous qualifications, including an Applied Math Degree from the University of Connecticut, where I graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Each year, UConn holds an annual Calculus competition on campus, and I won awards in it all four years, including First Place Overall! While at UConn, I also tutored in the Math Center where students would drop in for help with their math courses. I was happy when students would wait in line for me when there were plenty of other available tutors!

Math is at the core of everything I do as a programmer at my day job. I develop puzzle programs for a major magazine publisher; for example I wrote the Sudoku program which builds all of our Sudoku puzzles, and more! My previous job involved making educational software, where I specialized in math products for kids. I was the lead designer on "The Hidden Treasure of Al-Jabr", an Algebra product, and producer on the award-winning "Math Essentials I and II".

I live in Westchester County, have two boys (high school and middle school), and I'm an assistant scoutmaster for the local boy scout troop. I would welcome the opportunity to elevate your mathematical ability.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

A little more on my background: while in college, I tutored students in the Math Center, and was happy when kids older than myself would line up at my desk for my assistance. Not only did I graduate Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude, but I also have two boys myself, in 8th and 10th grades, so I know the type of math they are exposed to. Patience, kindness, and a positive attitude are the tenets of my tutoring style.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 has always been one of my stronger subjects because I enjoy the rigor of problem solving, as well as the abstract nature of the subject. I took higher-level algebra courses in college, and I developed an app for the iTunes store which is heavily reliant upon algebra 2.
Calculus,

Calculus

I have awards in UConn Calculus Competition four years in a row (including first place overall).
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry has always been one of my stronger subjects because I enjoy the rigor of doing proofs, as well as the visual nature of the subject. I took higher-level geometry courses in college, and I developed an app for the iTunes store (ColorDesign) which is heavily reliant upon geometry. As part of my undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics, geometry is a major part of my foundation, and I have been successfully helping students with geometry for some time.

• Applied Mathematics major, Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude • Much experience tutoring Algebra I and II. • Software Engineer - over 20 years. • Awards in the UConn Calculus Competition, including First Place Overall.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

Algebra, Geometry, and Trig have always been strong areas of interest for me, and it is these three topics that form the core of the Math SAT test. Not only am I proficient in these subjects, but I have a keen sense of strategy for taking standardized tests. Since graduating years ago with a degree in Applied Mathematics, I have mostly worked in roles that utilize my math skills on a daily basis.

Very Knowledgable and patient tudor

Rick helped explain computing slope and graphing. He was knowledgable and patient and although ours was the first lesson he conducted online he quickly overcame challenges to make the session very productive. Having the session recorded for review is especially helpful.

An excellent supplement to classroom review

My son has been working with Rick on and off throughout high school (currently at beginning of senior year studying calculus). Every time he "hits a wall" in math he requests a few sessions with Rick to help him through. It's been wonderful in improving his grades and - more importantly - his confidence. Very pleased with him!

Incredible last minute support!

Rick was extremely flexible in offering and providing last minute SAT Math tutoring. He is very personable and my son had an immediate rapport with Rick. So grateful for Rick in sharing his incredible math skills with my son!

Great Tutor!

My son needs to pass the Algebra 1 Regents exam in NYS but he completed Algebra 1 over a year ago. We hired Rick to help him prepare. My son shared that Rick was excellent at explaining concepts and teaching him how to solve problems. Rick was prepared with materials he knew would benefit my son. We are so happy to have found him and plan to continue working with him.

Willing to step in at the last minute!

Rick is a patient Tutor and appears to be knowledgeable on the subject matter and to have been able to connect with my son. We have only had two sessions and we will know more of is impact after my son takes his regents. I would recommend Rick.

Great first meeting

Stephen reports Rick is exactly what he wanted to prepare for SAT and found it very helpful to discuss what they were going to do together. He feels very comfortable working with Rick and thinks he is very clear.
