Hello prospective student!
My passion lies in both teaching, and Mathematics. I even started tutoring math as early as when I was in 9th grade helping fellow students who didn't have as easy a time with math as I did.
After my bachelors in mathematics, I got a Masters in computer science and had a high paying IT job. Being in IT didn't give me the same satisfaction as teaching, so I quit my IT job to get a PhD in Math to eventually teach. I got my PhD in Math specializing in Probability and I am very glad I did. I love teaching Mathematics and I have been teaching at the university level for over 25 years and also tutoring on the side throughout that period. I have taught 1000s of students as math faculty, and have tutored 100s of students.
I live for my students “aha!” moments. I want to make a difference to students. My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that you are more capable than you give yourself credit for. If mathematics is taught with a goal of having the student actually understand the material and know the whys and the hows then they can succeed very easily. I explain why and make sure my students understand the topics thoroughly. I do not like teaching with a memorization approach. I believe this is why some students struggle today. If you are taught the right way, math can be so much easier and within your reach.
I tutor any level of Mathematics, high school, undergraduate, as well as standardized tests :
SAT (Math), (my students see atleast a 20 "percentile" increase in score, and the ones who start off with about 680 end up between 780 & 800)
ACT (Math and Science),
AP or IB exams - any Mathematics (Calculus etc)
GRE (Quantitative Reasoning)
GMAT (Quantitative Reasoning, and Data Insights),
Actuarial Exam P,
Any undergraduate Mathematics Course
Any high school Mathematics Course
I absolutely love teaching Mathematics am confident I can make a significant difference to you. I hope to get a chance to tutor you.
Best wishes,
Dr. S
