I am a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music (BM, MM) with 20+ years experience teaching cello and music theory. Member of the American String Teachers Association. Ages 4+ and beginners welcome! I specialize in teaching adults of all levels. My students have appeared at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, and NJPAC and have continued on to study cello at the collegiate level. My music theory students have received top marks in the Royal Conservatory of Music Development Program Level 1-10 examinations and the AP music theory exam.

I am equally comfortable starting students as absolute beginners, or helping students reach the next level towards whatever their musical goals may be. I have started many students on cello virtually since the COVID-19 pandemic, and although daunting, learning an instrument from scratch or progressing to the next level is possible online.

As a cellist, I have performed at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and Teresa Carreño Theater in Caracas. I traveled to Puerto Rico in 2011 to perform and record at Univision as principal cellist with Cantico Nuevo. Featured as an on-stage performer in the Off Broadway production of "La Poeta y La Compositor" in 2010, I returned to the same theater to perform in "La Llarona" in 2012. I have performed with American Opera Project, including a 2012 performance of David Del Tredici’s Haddock’s Eyes in which Del Tredici described my performance as “beautifully played.”

I have recorded for over a hundred indie bands and singer songwriters and on the soundtrack for the 2013 Steven Soderbergh film,"Side Effects." I appeared on ABC’s The Revolution (2012) and was featured on Lifetime TV’s reality series, Marrying Millions (2019). My web series pilot, Strings Attached, recently won the Paris Film Awards Gold Award in the category of web series and aired at the Cinema L’Epée de Bois in Paris in February 2023. The same episode won the Silver Award in the category of web/tv series at the Florence Film Awards in March 2023.

Cello

I attended New York City's Manhattan School of Music where I received two degrees in Cello Performance. Before that, I attended the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts for high school and finished remotely so that I could study in the prep program at the Cleveland Institute of Music. I received training in the summers at Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.
Music Theory

Music Theory

I have 25+ years experience teaching music theory from beginner concepts to advanced harmony and counterpoint. In addition to helping high school students prepare for the AP music theory exam, I have students of all ages who have received top marks in the RCM Levels 8-10 music theory examinations. I have also taught group classes in sight-singing and ear training.

GREAT tutor!

I met with Alice online to get help with fingering--I play cello in a community orchestra and I'm an adult beginner. Alice was extremely helpful! We got a ton of work done in an hour. She was patient, very clear, and obviously experienced and competent. She gave me different options and listened to my concerns. Personable and full of energy, she was fun to work with! I have already scheduled another session. Strongly recommended!

Great Tutor!

Alice is very patient and knowledgeable. She always explains in a way easy to understand! It was pleasant to learn from a cellist like her, will come back and ask for her help in the future.
