I am an Evolutionary Biology PhD candidate with a liberal arts background and a passion for writing. I hold a BA in Biology and Environmental Studies from Middlebury College and an MS in Biology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and have received numerous awards for my writing and research, including a Fulbright Award. I am an Evolutionary Biology PhD candidate with a liberal arts background and a passion for writing. I hold a BA in Biology and Environmental Studies from Middlebury College and an MS in Biology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and have received numerous awards for my writing and research, including a Fulbright Award. Over the course of my 5+ years as a private tutor and academic editor, I have helped hundreds of clients achieve their writing goals, spanning assignments that include high-school essays, college admissions essays, and top-tier scientific articles published in Nature and Science.

My teaching style incorporates lessons learned from years of working in education, research, and academic editing. Not only do I guide my students on the essentials of concise, structured, and intellectually compelling writing, but I also help them incorporate their own authentic voices across both academic and personal assignments. After working with me to improve their application essays, some of my most recent students have gone on to gain entry in top-tier programs, such as NYU Tisch and USC Film School.

Having lived and worked for 5 years in Spain, I also have bilingual fluency in Spanish and enjoy working with students to improve their Spanish speaking and writing skills. I am also happy to accommodate lessons in Spanish regardless of the subject.

Amazing English lit and Spanish tutor!!

Robert has been tutoring my middle and high school aged daughters for over a year now and has been a tremendous help. With my older daughter, they have mostly been working on writing and critical reading skills. He helped her go from a low B to an A in AP Lit her junior year and reach the maximum score on the exam. More recently, he has been extremely helpful for the ACT practice––her practice test scores for Reading and Science have gone up dramatically since he started working with her. We plan to continue classes with him through the exam season and for college essay help. For my younger daughter, Robert has been helping her with conversational Spanish for the past year, and this year her teacher says she’s one of the best speakers in the class. She initially wasn’t very excited about extra classes outside of schoolwork, but Robert made it fun for her through educational conversation games and creative projects. He has a great way of engaging his students, and I plan to continue with him for as long as possible!
