I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. I have also just graduated from medical school this month. As pre-requisites for school, I have taken Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Advanced Calculus. The reason that Biochemistry and Calculus were so appealing to me was a combination of both the professors as well as how it was taught. They were taught in such a way that I would be excited to go back home and learn new material. In high school, I scored a 5 on the AP tests in both Calculus and Physics. I have over 5 years of tutoring experience and have tutored students needing help in math/science ranging from Algebra 1 to prep for AP Calculus/Physics. I have also tutored for and taken the AP US History exam, but it’s the math and science tutees that I’m most proud of.

I love teaching, especially in these subjects. I also love learning which I think makes me a stronger teacher. I really like that “aha” moment when a key teaching point has been learned. I am very intentional in making each session student-centered. I arrive to each session with a lesson plan and ensure to make each session interactive. I always allow room for and encourage student inquiry. I believe it’s important to have an inquisitive and curious mind in any field of study. Similarly, I check for understanding throughout each session with various methods of assessment. In my experience, one of the most effective methods of learning includes checkpoints for understanding; I do this by offering a varied range of assessments within each tutoring session.

Some of the exams and accomplishments that I have prepared for and excelled at include: BC Calc AP test, Physics AP test, the MCAT test (multi-disciplinary entrance exam for medical school), the STEP1 and STEP2 tests, and a minor in mathematics from UConn.
