About Richard

Bio

Hi, I'm Richard. I'm currently a professor of writing at the College of Staten Island. I earned my MFA from The New School and graduated from their creative writing program in 2020. In my experience, it was the instructors that made my journey to becoming a teacher possible. Without their knowledge and support, I wouldn't be where I am today. That is exactly what I want to give back to my own students. I strive to share the same encouragement, that I received in school, with everyone I teach....

I strive to share the same encouragement, that I received in school, with everyone I teach. In both a college classroom and one on one settings, my goals are always focused on how to make the writing better. I love brainstorming ways we can improve everything from persuasive essays to novel manuscripts. I'm passionate about sharing the gift of writing with others and showing everyone I teach that their voice matters.

I have been teaching in a college classroom for a year now. In my Introduction to College Writing class, we read, write, and discuss both critical and persuasive essays. I lead workshops and lectures based on published essays and students' own work. I also have extensive experience in creative writing workshops that require more one-on-one attention. As far as my own work is concerned, I'm currently in the process of sending out query letters and pitching my science fiction novel to literary agents (another complicated process I can assist with!)

I want to help the students I work with as much as possible. If you are struggling with any sort of writing project or assignment, please feel free to reach out to me. I usually respond within the hour and have a lot of flexibility in terms of scheduling.
