I graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in Mathematics, where I studied subjects including calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistics, and abstract algebra. I captained Yale’s Putnam team, conducted published mathematical research, and served as head problem writer for Yale’s own math competition. I have been teaching and tutoring mathematics since high school, when I helped coach middle school and high school math teams. In college, I tutored high school competition math as well as freshman and sophomore level college courses, and I helped coach Yale’s Putnam team.
After Yale, I worked as a quantitative trader at Susquehanna International Group, where teaching remained an important part of my role. I trained new hires in probability, trading concepts, poker, and strategy games, worked with the firm’s education team, and partnered with recruiting to write quantitative interview questions. Together with my competition-writing experience, this gave me a great deal of practice designing problems that isolate particular skills, reveal misconceptions, and distinguish genuine understanding from memorized procedures.
My tutoring style is interactive and tailored to each student. I first try to identify exactly where understanding breaks down, since difficulty with an advanced topic often comes from a small gap in an earlier concept. One of my strengths is creating targeted questions on the spot to test a particular idea and give students focused practice where they need it most. I want students to understand why a method works, not just imitate a solution. For students who are struggling, I make abstract ideas concrete and intuitive. For stronger students, I emphasize deeper connections, elegant problem solving techniques, and challenging extensions.
