Elementary School Teacher with Masters

My name is Lauren C. and I am a 4th grade teacher in CT. I grew up in CT and received my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education at Southern Connecticut State University. I then moved to Boston for the past 4 years where I taught 5th grade math for one year and all of the subjects in 4th grade, for two years. I received my Masters this past year in Special Education.

I love working with students especially when I get the chance to work one on one with them. This has been a difficult past few years for many and I look forward to helping children catch up in school areas that are difficult for them. I have a strong background in K-6 curriculum and have wonderful resources I can use to support the learning of all types of students and learners.

I have been teaching math for the past four years and even before that I had taken many math classes in college. I also passed all of my math Praxis exams which is a qualification for becoming a teacher in the state of CT. I have taught using the common core curriculum for the past 4 years and have specifically taught 4th and 5th grade math. I have used multiple curriculums to teach math and always use math manipulatives and supplemental resources to support my students in understanding difficult concepts.

I have been teaching sciences for the past four years. I have used both the MA and CT curriculum to teach my students the necessary standards to prepare them for state testing.

I have been teaching reading for the past three years. Even though I have taught older students, I still need to teach many students phonics skills that they have trouble with to support them in learning how to read. Phonics is such an important skill for students to master to learn to read and I have had taken many tests and have read many books and resources that have prepped me in becoming a strong phonics teacher.
