Hi, my name is Erika!
I graduated from UCSD in 2020 with honors in Microbiology and have a minor in Japanese Studies. I also am very passionate about literature and essay writing and had the opportunity to be a T.A in a history based-literature series at UCSD as an undergraduate. I was also part of the Humanities Tutoring Club in university for 3 years and worked to help my peers, international students, and underclassmen improve their writing skills and get used to university writing. I have since moved onto my PhD in Microbiology/Virology at Mt. Sinai here in New York.
I have always been passionate about tailoring the right type of learning to each person as having a good and effecting learning program can change your perspective on a class or subject. In my experience teaching freshmen and sophomores in college, many people are unprepared for their English courses and are not taught how to put together a cohesive and succinct argumentative essay which is a valuable skill in any field.
Graduated with honors in Microbiology and excelled in all related courses such as Genetics,
Organic Chemistry, and Molecular Biology. Being able to understand how systems are interacting with each other through metaphors and drawing helps to solidify relationships between molecules and pathways. Moreover, for these courses, understanding how to study effectively is an important part of succeeding. I hope to pass along my study methods so students can become independent learners.
I have 2 years of high school english tutoring, 3 years of university english tutoring, and one year of experience as a a Humanities Teaching Assistant at UCSD. I am familiar with the High School method of writing essays but also am keenly aware of what university professors and TA's are looking for in argumentative essays.
