About Adam

Bio

I first starting playing the saxophone at nine years old, learning both jazz and classical repertoire. After studying classical music through high school, where I directed one of the ensembles at his high school. During this time I taught many students varying from ages 6-students in their mid 40s, at all experience levels. I'm currently pursuing a degree at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester New York. No matter the skill level, I hope I can give some direction to your music education.

Chess

Chess

I have been playing Chess since the age of 4, teaching students from 8-18 for the past 2 years. I study professional games of the past, and have been involved with Chess clubs/tournaments.
Clarinet

Clarinet

Adam started learning Clarinet early in high school to in order compete at the Berklee Jazz Festival, where he received multiple awards. Since then Adam has gone to the Eastman school of music, where he has learned from the both best orchestral musicians and jazz musicians. Adam now does professional touring/recording work as a Clarinet/Saxophone player.
Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

Jazz, being an art involving improvisation, is often called spontaneous composition. Studying this for 10 years has helped my understanding of music greatly improve to a point where I compose new music every single day. I also study under Bill Dobbins and Dariusz Terefenko, who's books, on composition and theory respectively, are used to teach composition at conservatories around the world(such as Juilliard and Berklee)
Ear Training

Ear Training

Studying jazz for 10 years is a great training for the ears. I have nearly perfected my relative pitch, meaning given a pitch I can then find any note, and pull apart voicing (chords).
Flute

Flute

Adam started learning Flute early in high school to in order compete at the Berklee Jazz Festival, where he received multiple awards. Since then Adam has gone to the Eastman school of music, where he has learned from the both best orchestral musicians and jazz musicians. Adam now does professional touring/recording woodwind doubler playing Flute/Clarinet/Saxophone
General Music

General Music

While I make a career as a professional Jazz Saxophonist, the fundamental ideas of music are what truly fascinate me. I believe that music education too often doesn't focus on these ideas of general music, so I'm always excited to teach these to students. After formally learning theory at the Eastman School of Music, I've gone on to use many of these ideas in both composition and improvisational works. I hope to leave my students with the same fascination of music that I have.
Music Theory

Music Theory

I have studied college level music theory at the Eastman School of Music, one of the most renowned collegiate theory programs.
Piano

Piano

I have been playing piano since I was 4, originally learning to play songs and simple classical pieces. At the Eastman school of music I took lessons with great musicians, such as Oliver Scott, and Timothy Ogunbiyi, and learns composition from the renowned Bill Dobbins. I offer a unique and fun approach for beginners that I believe is more organic than the classical method. I believe I’m a good teacher for those who aren’t sure what they’re looking for/ people just want to broaden their musical horizons using the piano.
Saxophone

Saxophone

I have studied jazz saxophone for 10 years 7 of which I studied classical technique as well. Over those ten years I studied with established L.A. professional David Sills and New York musician Charles Pillow. Over these ten years I have also had the chance to study briefly with Lucas Pino, Dayna Stephens, Ben Wendel, Ravi Coltrane, as well as jazz legends such as Charles McPherson and Jimmy Heath
Sight Singing

Sight Singing

Sight singing is at the core of a good musician, as it's a sign of strong ears. Because these two work together, we will focus on ear training and theory, as well as singing. After studying theory at the Eastman School of Music's renowned program, I'm confident I can train students in sight singing.
