I'm a University of Chicago graduate currently working at the Columbia Law School with extensive experience tutoring SAT, writing, editing and AP exams. I first started tutoring math when I was in high school, where I worked with local children with learning disabilities after school. As an undergraduate, I worked as a teaching assistant in World History and English courses at Dunbar Vocational Academy while tutoring all subjects during the lunch period. After graduating, I tutored privately in the NYC area for AP exams and was a CollegeVine essay editor and SAT tutor. My students routinely saw 200-300 point increases in their SAT scores after working with me and I worked with many students who had ADHD and other learning disabilities. I myself have attained a perfect score on the SAT and GRE and received a 5 in a dozen different AP tests. I like to use my own experience to help students master the tests, which I believe involves work on students fundamental skills as well as "getting to know" the quirks of each different type of test. I love working with students to enrich writing and reading skills and can provide a general education in classical texts and history.

I am also a Violist and Violinist with 16 years of classical training. I have trained under Ronald Houston (Southern Methodist University) and Doyle Armbrust (Spektral Quartet). I am a current member of the Chelsea Symphony, was the principal Violist of the University of Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and was a fellow at the National Symphony Orchestra summer music institute. I first started teaching when I worked at the JDR Violin summer academy in 2014 and have taught privately ever since. I play at churches and gatherings around NYC and provide music lessons to students of all ages from beginner to advanced amateur.

Approved Subjects

Music History

Music History

I graduated from the University of Chicago in 2018 with a B.A. in History and extensive coursework in Music History. I have written papers on the development of chamber music in the 17th and 18th centuries and on the keyboard music of the 20th century, among other topics. I am also a classically trained musician.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I was the captain of the mock trial team and I won several awards for my extemporaneous speaking in high school. As a student at the University of Chicago I participated in public events hosted by the Political Union, organized panels for the Platypus Review, and spoke on behalf of the Chamber Music Organization. I have given public speeches on panels with famous academics such as Adolph Reed Jr. and have 5+ years of experience as a tutor, which includes tutoring speech writing and coaching speakers for mock trial, speech and debate.
Violin

Violin

I'm a musician and writer based in Uptown with 16 years of experience playing Violin and Viola. I graduated from the University of Chicago in 2018 and have studied Viola with Ronald Houston, currently teaching at Southern Methodist University, and Doyle Armbrust of the Spektral Quartet. I am currently a member of the Chelsea Symphony, was formerly the principal Violist of the University of Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and I'm a former fellow with the National Symphony Orchestra's summer festival in Washington, D.C. I enjoy working with young composers and playing at churches and gathering around NYC. I first began to teach violists as an instructor for the JDR Music summer academy in Plano, TX in 2014 and have since taken on violin students of all ages in early stages of their musical training.

Excellent tutor

Erin is patient and comes well prepared to the session. Our daughter really enjoyed working with her and is looking forward to the next session with her. Erin gave her some strategies that are coming in very handy on days when she works independently on her homework.
