I am a published fiction writer who is passionate about all things literature! I have a B.A. with honors from University College London, and I am an M.F.A. candidate in Creative Writing at New York University.

I am a college prepatory tutor with experience helping students to brainstorm and draft their college essays. My fiction has been published in print and online, and I have years of experience proofreading and editing college essays, high school essays, and college applications. I look forward to helping with your English Language and Literature studies as well as with test preparation for the literature and writing sections of college admissions tests.

I studied English Language and Literature in a rigorous course at University College London. I chose to complete my undergraduate studies in London because I wanted to focus solely on studying language and literature. During my degree I completed independent research projects on Toni Morrison and Thomas Pynchon, the use of the Western canon in contemporary Indian literature, and linguistic code-switching in Black literature and memoir. My creative writing studies have given me extensive workshopping experience, and I love to read and edit fiction as well as nonfiction. I achieved grades of 5 on the AP exams in English Language and English Literature, and I achieved a grade of 780 on the SAT English subject test. My fiction won the 2018 UCL Publisher's Prize and was shortlisted for the 53rd Jerry Jazz Musician Short Fiction Contest.

I am available to tutor weekly or biweekly, and I am happy to create study schedules to prepare for standardized testing. Please contact me to schedule a lesson or test prep session!

ACT Reading

ACT Reading

I have a B.A. in English Literature from University College London and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from New York University. I have successfully helped students improve their reading comprehension and standardized test scores by working first through concepts and the format of standardized test questions, then practicing under time conditions so they can become comfortable with the full standardized test. For the ACT, I focus on both ACT Reading and ACT Writing to teach students reading comprehension and rules of grammar.

I studied English Literature and Language in a rigorous program at University College London. My concentrations included Old English, Shakespeare, Chaucer, and Linguistics. I completed independent research on radical politics in Thomas Pynchon and Toni Morrison, the use of the Western canon in contemporary Indian literature, and code switching in Black literature and memoir.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

I have a B.A. in English Literature from University College London and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from New York University. I work with students to improve their SAT Reading by first assessing their struggles with reading comprehension and discussing tips for reading and understanding questions. Then we practice timed tests so students can become comfortable with the test conditions. With many of my SAT Reading students, we also discuss homework assignments and English essays and learn how they can improve these using the same concepts they need for SAT Reading.
Writing

Writing

I hold an MFA in Fiction from New York University (4.0 GPA). I have multiple short stories published online and in print, and I received scholarships to study at multiple prestigious creative writing workshops after my MFA, including Bread Loaf Writers Conference, Aspen Words, A Public Space, and One Story. I am currently at work on two novels.

Knowledgeable, patient, and kind tutor

Emma helps my son with English writing. She’s always available to guide him and help him thinking through with his topic. She is very strong in grammar which is important for my son’s writing development. I can’t express enough how great of a tutor she is.
