Hello! My name is Alyssa and I tutor Violin, Music Theory and English. Here is my Experience:

English/The Language Arts:
Majoring in Philosophy at New York University and Creative Writing in high school, I have extensive experience with English writing. Accolades-wise, I have many publications, have published a book: "Hinged," and served as chief editor for the "Parallax Literary Journal." I tutored English to high-schoolers and taught the English Language to foreign students. Majoring in Philosophy, I can help you go beyond in understanding how to form sentences and write strong essays/papers. I know the linguistic reasoning behind an argument when formulating argument papers. Additionally, I understand the logical structure and the literary structure different essay's should hold. I would enjoy helping you strengthen your writing skills!

Music:
I have been playing the violin for 9 years! I took courses in music at NYU and have education in music theory! I have been playing piano for 3 years, and taking private voice lessons and choir. I have been composing for 4 years and have taken music lessons at Colburn. I received a grant to put a music show and was first chair in my orchestra. I have played at the LACMA, and at many events. I have been teaching for 2 years, and have taught in both classroom/group settings, and private lesson settings.

Working with Kids:
I love working with kids! my past experience has included teaching music theory, Theatre, violin, and voice to kids. I have tutored kids in math and English, and have taught international students English! I have toured to 6 different elementary schools in Southern California to perform and show kids the beauty of theatre. I use a kind, structured, and positive approach!

Music and Language Arts are both very important and can help with motivation for academics enabling creative processing and thought by using the left and right hemisphere of their brain.

Ballet

Ballet

I have been training in Ballet for 13 years. I have trained at Colburn, and Tulsa School of Ballet. I am also trained in music, and can teach dancers how to dance more rhythmically, and with better technique. I have performed in many events and at the stage at Colburn!
Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

I have been composing for 3 years. I have studied music theory for three years too. In addition to this, I teach how composition differed in the baroque, romantic era, etc... compared to now. I know and apply the rules of music theory, overtones, and triads. I teach and have studied roman numeral analysis, and am familiar with Dorian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Locrian modes. Though this is not a music theory class, a little theory will be learned along the way. I teach these rules so that composers can break them, or utilize them to their own advantage. I will also teach a minimal amount of Ear training to develop relative pitch because I prefer not to use notation sites for composition for students unless they are not familiar with music theory, or notes. I teach people new to composition/music theory, beginners, and intermediate musicians/composers.
Logic

Logic

Analytic Philosophy Major (double Major) at New York University. Have taken the Dr. Maudlin's Logic Class, Chalmers (who wrote extensive works on Brain in a Vat scenerio) Consciousness and arguments for consciousness class. Mathematical Logic/Philosophy of Mathematics at NYU. My branch of philosophy (analytic) uses Logic to derive arguments and validity of certain subjects: Science, mathematics, Linguistics and formulating Arguments. I am fluent in First Order Logic (FOL language), Second Order Logic, Propositional Logic and know validity in accordance to the Classical perspective and Intuitionists Perspective.
Music Theory

Music Theory

I have taken music lessons at Colburn, and at an Arts Academy in southern California. I have applied music theory to my composition, and have composed for musicals, and composed for my own musicals too! I have been studying violin for 7 years, singing for 5 years, and apply music theory to each of these forms of music. I have taught both children and adults in music theory. I have developed a relative pitch, and know how to play piano, and use it to display chords, and theory, so that you don't only see notes, but hear them too. I love teaching music theory!I teach beginning/beginner-intermediate theory
Theater

Theater

I have been doing theatre for 71/2 years. I have trained professionally and have taken many masterclasses with Wendie Malick, Acting teachers from Oklahoma state university and Evilyn Rudie. I have made appearances on the Hub network, Universal Kids, and have worked professionally on sets shooting a web series, and while shooting reels. I have worked on a devised musical and was apart of creating a show called Off "The Grid: A Devised Musical." I wrote and composed music for the musical, alongside acting in it! I have toured around Los Angeles performing in the musical Honk! to 6 different elementary schools and introducing kids to the art of theatre.
