While I have tutored during and after college, my tutoring experience began during high school when I helped prepare students for standardized tests and AP Exams. I assist with all High School subjects including SAT I and II exam prep (specializing in the Math I/II, Physics, US History, and Chemistry of the Subject tests). Of college level subjects I specialize in the sciences, math through Calculus 4 and Linear Algebra, and economics. Additionally, I would be happy to tutor in miscellaneous subjects such as writing, chess, public speaking, test prep, and French.
Assuming that the client in question doesn't have any immediately pressing assignments or necessary preparation for exams I will typically follow my own teaching philosophy. When working with a student for the first time I like to first get an idea for how extensive the student's understanding is of the subject in question. Then I can identify areas that the student can improve on and tailor practice materials or lesson prep to best serve the student. This also allows me to help the student in ways that pertain to their interests for after they complete classwork. If a student has an interest in being pre-med while taking a science class or acquiring a finance internship while taking a math class then I structure any supplemental material to cover those relevant skills sets.
